Tried and True Methods to Speed Up Your Cleaning
(Or at least make it a little less painful!)
Cleaning is NOT my favorite thing to do. So although I absolute LOVE spring, I’m not crazy about all of the spring cleaning that needs to be done.
If you feel the same way you might find these resources helpful. Sometimes just having the right tip or the right tool can make a big difference in how much time everything takes! And if I know I can get good results without it taking a bunch of time it’s a lot easier for me to even get started.
From the creators of Real Simple magazine comes a terrific little book (paperback or Kindle) to help you get your house under control! I love Real Simple magazine and when I think about it, my subscription to that magazine probably had a hand in making me want to start Easy Simplicity.
This 96-page book will help you figure out what your cleaning personality is (which is kind of fun!) and how to make the most of it.
It will also give you great cleaning hacks to make the whole process easier. You can find so much information online now, but for some reason, the way the information is presented in this book seems to work better for me. Definitely check it out if you want to get your spring cleaning done faster and better!
When you need to do those dreaded heavy-duty tasks, this book can be a real time-saver! It has lots of quick tips and tricks to help you get those spring cleaning tasks (like window washing) done in record time.
Favorite Cleaning Products
I do make some of my cleaning products myself. That way I know exactly what they have in them, they are more environmentally friendly, and usually much more economical. You can find recipes and labels for my favorite homemade cleaning products on the Freebies Page.
I love using essential oils in my homemade cleaning products. The set below has some wonderful scents for spring that I LOVE! The germ-killer blend is terrific!
These are great spray bottles for homemade cleaning products. One of the best things is that they are dark in color so that you are better able to store cleaning products with hydrogen peroxide in them since hydrogen peroxide is light sensitive.
Having said that there are a few commercial cleaning products that I like to keep in the house because they just make things so much easier or because they smell so good! I admit it. I’m a sucker for a really good smelling product!
As far as keeping things easier, disinfecting wipes are pretty much the greatest thing since sliced bread in my book, especially for cleaning the bathroom.
I keep a canister of them under each bathroom sink. That way I can quickly and easily wipe down counters or the toilet seat without any fuss. It takes about 10 seconds and keeps the bathroom so much cleaner!
Mrs. Meyer’s cleaning products are some of my favorite. They’re biodegradable and made of plant-based ingredients. They are also cruelty-free which is so important.
Plus, this geranium scent…OMG! I am seriously in love with it! If you have to clean you might as well feel good about the cleaning products you’re using, don’t you think?
Laundry is a seemingly endless chore sometimes. So you might as well enjoy the smell! Zum Frankincense and Myrrh laundry detergent is AMAZING! It’s made with essential oils. It’s highly concentrated so you don’t need to use much. Plus, even better, it has no parabens, no phosphates, no petrochemicals, and no sulfates.
You might be thinking “Frankincense and Myrrh??? Why would I want my laundry to smell like that???” Trust me. It’s awesome and doesn’t smell “Christmasy” at all, in case you’re worried about that.
Keeping your Cleaning Supplies in Order
Why have your cleaning tools falling all over and getting in the way, or worse yet lost because you don’t remember where you put them. It just makes the chore you have to get done take longer and be more frustrating.
You can easily keep your cleaning tools all in one place AND save space with this great hang-up organizer.
This cleaning supply caddy is pretty handy as well. I like it because if you don’t have it full it doesn’t take up a bunch of room like a regular plastic caddy would. It’s handy for cleaning supplies and a lot of other things you might want to organize.
I hope you’ve found these ideas and products helpful as you approach your cleaning, no matter what time of the year it is.
Sometimes just having the right tool for the right job, or a better technique for the job at hand can save you a bunch of time. That way you’ll be free to do something that you REALLY want to do!
